Really well done to you both! Honestly I looked at the length of this piece and almost passed, as I only had a few minutes, but I'm glad I jumped in because although it was really long I really enjoyed every word!! I liked getting to know Helene and more about Tudor executions! I am fascinated by Henry Howard Earl of Surrey so I'm hoping he makes an appearance in the book.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, despite me probably giving longer answers than expected! And yes, Henry Howard Earl of Surrey has his own chapter in the book.
He’s interesting for sure, a great poet it seems like though I do think he was ambitious and reckless, especially in his comments about his father having the regency of young Prince Edward, and trying to push his sister (and the widow of the king’s illegitimate son) into the king’s bed. Some questionable decisions there!
So excited to read this! I always enjoy hearing/reading Helene speaking about her books. She is such a great historian and storyteller. Thank you for this great article!
I think this might be my favourite interview of yours so far 🙌🏻 what an interesting angle to investigate. Tudor power has always been equated with extreme violence and manipulation in my head so this book is going straight on to my TBR…

Thank you, Amy! There was simply too much excellent material from Helene that I couldn't bear to cut anything.

Gotta grab it then! What do you think of him? I think he's misunderstood and actually I think I would have liked him

This is the most thorough review and conversation I have read in years. Bravo to both of you!
Thank you, Petra!
Keep it going!
That’s so lovely, thank you! Jonathan’s questions were very interesting so that makes an interview easier!
Just watched Elizabeth: the Golden Age so am keen now to read more about Tudor court machinations. Great interview!
Thanks, Catherine! 🫧🫧🫧
Have ordered Elizabethan Rebellions 😊
Great! I can't wait to hear what you think.
